CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Anokijig has been recognized for excellence in camping for 88 years. Founded in 1926, Anokijig has built a history and rich tradition of offering youth experiences that will last a lifetime.
Anokijig is a Native American word meaning "We Serve" but it is also synonymous with new friends, positive values, personal growth, great adventures, and outrageous fun. When you combine that with our dedication to offering campers an experience that emphasizes values such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, you have a combination that can't be beat.
Camp Anokijig is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 16, for four days, one week, two weeks, or for up to nine weeks of summer fun. Join us for the traditional Resident Camp, or focus on a specialty camp program. Teens are welcome to challenge themselves with an off-site adventure trip.
Please visit our website for specific descriptions and details of our program offerings.
Our staff members are chosen for their understanding of young people and their ability to communicate with them on a positive level. Our camper-to-staff ratio is about four to one. Most of our staff are previous Anokijig campers, so they bring a perspective to their leadership role that is deeply enhanced by Anokijig's rich spirit and tradition. All staff attend an extensive training program prior to camp opening. Senior staff members carry certifications in First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuerer. Certified lifeguards are present for all swimming and boating activities. Medical staff live on site during the summer camp season. Local clinics and hospitals are 5-10 minutes away with quick EMS response.
CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: This position is open to those individuals who are fifteen years of age or older and until graduation from High School. Junior Staff members’ job responsibilities have two different phases. Junior Staff are assigned to camper groups. Under the direct supervision of Senior Staff, Junior Staff will work as a counselor in training and will be in direct contact with the campers. Camper group duties include sleeping in the tents, dining hall supervision, and general supervision in the day-to-day care for the campers.
The second phase of the responsibility is an assignment to a program area. Once again, under the supervision of a trained Senior Staff member, Junior Staff will assist in the teaching and supervision of the campers at the program areas. Program areas include: swimming, canoeing, paddlesports, sailing, windsurfing, fishing, horseback riding, arts & crafts, archery, riflery, nature, dance & drama, digital photography, woodworking, ukulele band, glee choir, and maintenance.
Benefits from the Junior Staff program include leadership training, program skill training, room and board, and the availability of a job reference, if desired, for future employment.
All Junior Staff members are required to complete an application with references and attend a week long staff training. We request that each Junior Staff member complete at least two camp weeks of service in addition to their training week. This is a volunteer position.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: We believe that every child should have an opportunity to experience Camp Anokijig. Through the generosity of many caring people, scholarships are available.

Our diverse program offers opportunities in athletics, water sports, creative arts, and adventure programming, and instills a sense of healthy competition through our Achievement Based Programming. Every camper also embarks on an age-appropriate wilderness trip with their cabin, which takes them canoeing or hiking through the scenic landscapes of the upper Midwest.
Your son will return from his first summer at North Star raving about his new friends and new adventures, and he will come home a more confident, responsible, and compassionate young man. You will undoubtedly see the growth and maturity he gained from his North Star experience.
We encourage you to visit our website at Our Camp Website Link: www.NorthStarCamp.com and give us a call, so that you can learn more about North Star and the people that make it such a special place.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: A Wisconsin Summer Camp for Youth with Learning Disabilities / Differences. Timbertop is an overnight camp designed for boys and girls that have been identified by their School District as needing extra help for a special learning need. Specific learning disabilities may include: OHI, ADHD, ADD, LD and SLD. Youth receiving support services such as Leveled Learning Intervention (LLI), Reading Support and Title 1, are also eligible.
Timbertop combines traditional camp activities with extra reading practice and special group activities that focus on dealing with learning differences in a structured daily setting. We are dedicated to providing a safe, fun and small group environment, which develops the spirit, mind and body of each individual. Camp is a special place where youth and teens learn about the environment, develop positive values, make meaningful friendships, build positive peer relationships, learn new skills and increase self-confidence. In our community of caring adults Timbertop summer camp helps kids grow and find themselves.
Our History:
This year we will be celebrating the 54th anniversary of Timbertop! Timbertop was founded in 1967 and operated by the Association for Services for Learning Disabilities, a non-profit organization that sponsors camping for children with learning disabilities. Timbertop Camp Inc. is now operated by a Volunteer Board of Directors.
Camp Details:
Timbertop is a 7 day outdoor adventure where campers will learn outdoor skills and participate in activities designed to enhance their cooperative abilities and interpersonal relationships. An emphasis is placed on building self-esteem and how to make and keep friends. Whether building a campfire, cleaning the cabin or learning how to handle a canoe, each camper learns to share the responsibility of camp life. The daily schedule includes: reading instruction, swim lessons, cabin activities, camp classes (such as nature exploration, canoeing, arts & crafts, archery, fishing, games and more), evening campfires, stargazing and all-camp programs.
Camp Leadership/Directors:
Timbertop Camp is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our volunteers/staff are selected for their leadership skills and their ability to provide a meaningful and safe camp experience for youth with Learning Disabilities. Volunteers/Staff have an understanding of youth with special needs and the unique potential of each child. There is a ratio of one adult to every six campers.
Rhoda Brooks “Wings”, (Camp Founder) holds an M.A. in Special Education and has way over 30 years of teaching and administrative experience.
Nancy Reuter “Spirit” has worked with Timbertop since 1992 and is a Special Education teacher in Mosinee, WI.
Pete Matthai “Timber” has been with Timbertop since 1991. He has been the Camp Director Since 1994. He has a BS degree from UWSP in Natural Resources – Youth Programming & Camp Management.
CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Choose the price tier you can best afford. We understand that different families have differing abilities to pay, so we have implemented three pricing levels to better accommodate all financial needs. Please consider selecting the highest tier you can afford to allow Timbertop Camp to best stretch our funding and continue to improve the quality of each camper’s experience.
Price C is our historically subsidized rate, which does not represent the true cost of camp, but has been our standard rate.
Price B is a partially subsidized rate, but more clearly reflects the actual cost of camp.
Price A most accurately reflects the actual cost of Timbertop Camp.
Our Tier Pricing Program in no way influences the experience your child(ren) will receive! We simply feel it is important to share with parents the true costs of Camp and give families the opportunity to decide how much they can contribute toward their child’s camp experience. Financial assistance is provided through donations to Timbertop Camp, Inc. and other generous clubs and organizations.

This process is where coaches come and greet both parents and campers in the parking lot when parents pull up to drop off their children.
Our staff guide the kids onto the field/court and out of harm's way by funneling them into our gate system. Eye contact is maintained from each one of our staff members until the kids make it onto the field/court where they are grouped by age. This efficient process ensures safety. Additionally, it develops a level of trust between parent, coach, and child that ultimately leads to a fun and skill-focused camp for youth.

Camp is a place where children can come from all different backgrounds, be free of all outside influences, and learn about who they are and who they have the potential to be. My hope is to spread that passion to anyone that attends the camp while also sharing any variety of the experiences I have been lucky enough to have during my time in the sport. There have been many valuable experiences both positive and negative that lead to shape a love for the sport that have brought me from a kid that did not want to run to someone that has made a career in the sport and a lifelong runner. My aim is to impart some of the important lessons on those that attend the camp, while giving tips for training and developing a mental edge for competitions."
